The lab also responds to chemical emergencies and spills, and provides support to the NYS Childhood Lead Poisoning Program, analyzing paint from homes, children’s toys and other possible sources of exposure. The LINC is the designated Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA) principal lab in NYS, which allows NYS to maintain primacy under the SDWA and brings in funding for DOH programs. Responsibilities include performing analyses of regulated and unregulated contaminants using wet chemistry and instrumental analytical methods, performing research to improve analytical methods & supervising staff. Without this backfill, the above testing and the ability to maintain primacy under the SDWA will be adversely impacted, and will jeopardize our accreditation for these analyses.
