Minimum Qualifications Must be licensed and have a current registration to practice as a Dental Hygienist in New York State.

Eligible List: Candidates must be reachable for appointment on Current Civil Service Eligible List for this title.

Temporary: Community Mental Health Nurse is a continuous recruitment examination. Candidates who are not currently on the eligible list may apply for this position and if appointed, will receive a temporary appointment. Candidates who receive a temporary appointment must receive a score that is reachable on the resulting eligible list before they can be permanently appointed.

Duties Description POSITION DESCRIPTION:
As a Dental Hygienist, you could perform any of the allowable services in accordance with Section 6606 of the New York State Education Law, under the direct supervision of a licensed dentist providing compassionate oral care for the developmentally disabled population. You would perform oral prophylactic work and assist the dentist in at the Corinth office, or the alternate location at OPWDD facility, Oswald D Heck in Schenectady. You would also work collaboratively with dental assistant when available. Preferred appointment would be made to full-time positions. However, opportunities for part-time employment may also be available.

Duties: Primarily to provide preliminary exams, prophylaxis, scaling and curettage, as well as take x-rays, and administer fluoride treatments and sealants. Charting of existing dental history and noting the areas of deterioration which need repair. Perform in-office patient and staff education. Assisting dentist with chair side procedures (ie extractions, fillings, RCT., crowns and dentures or partials). Maintenance of all tools and equipment in compliance with OSHA Standards. Maintain all routine compliance documentation current. Purchase any needed supplies and equipment for both clinics. Some travel to alternate location would be required to provide service in both locations.
Scheduling of appointments for individuals and assuring adequate communication with care team. Interaction daily with individuals and staff and on occasion with family/guardians/service coordinators/nursing staff and primary care physicians. Documenting services in EHR for billing purposes as well as documentation.
