Minimum Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Candidates must currently be in title, eligible for transfer, or meet the minimum qualifications for appointment. There is no written test. If you meet the minimum qualifications, your education and experience will be evaluated against the general background/critical activities of the position.

Speech-Language Pathologist 1: a master's degree in speech pathology which meets the requirements for New York State licensure as a Speech Pathologist. These are the same as ASHA requirements for entrance into a clinical fellowship year.


Speech-Language Pathologist 2: one year of post-master's experience** as a Speech Language Pathologist AND

New York State licensure as a Speech Language Pathologist;

American Speech and Hearing Association (ASHA) certification in Speech Language Pathology.

* This experience is NOT in addition to the experience required for licensure or certification. However, you must have had one full calendar year of experience rather than the nine months of experience required for licensure or certification.

After one year of satisfactory experience as a Speech-Language Pathologist 1 AND upon possession of either a New York State license or Certificate of Clinical Competence by the American Speech and Hearing Association (ASHA), you will be advanced to Speech Language Pathologist 2 without further examination.





Duties Description POSITION DESCRIPTION:

The Speech-Language Pathologist provides clinical services for individuals with communication and swallowing disorders. They function as a member of a multi-disciplinary treatment team or within the organizational structure of the department in which they work. As services are provided on a referral basis, travel may occur within the 8 counties of the CNYDDSO (Cayuga, Cortland, Herkimer, Lewis Madison, Oneida, Onondaga, Oswego Counties). Mileage is compensated per Office of State Comptroller rules and regulations.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

A Speech Language Pathologist in this position provides comprehensive communication and oral motor services to individuals with Developmental Disabilities in state operated IRAs, Family Care Homes, Day Habilitation Programs, and Article 16 Clinics. Duties include but are not limited to:
• Evaluate individuals across all pertinent areas of the Scope of Practice in Speech Language Pathology
• Provide direct SLP services using an Evidence-Based Practice approach
• Develop necessary plans, routines, and guidelines.
• Complete thorough and timely documentation and billing within the electronic health record in compliance with Medicare and Medicaid regulations
• Train agency staff in implementation of SLP-related plans, routines, etc.
• Assess, justify, acquire, and program AAC as necessary
• Educate staff in agency initiatives such as Choking Prevention, Autism Awareness
and other related initiatives
• Collaborate professionally with all other disciplines on the treatment team to provide comprehensive person-centered services based on the valued outcomes of each individual and the principles of the HCBS Waiver.
*Speech Language Pathologist 2 may have responsibilities of supervision of Speech Language Pathologist 1.

SELECTION CRITERIA:
• Ability to function as a member of the interdisciplinary treatment team relating to professional, para-professional and direct care staff.
• Ability to communicate in a thorough, concise, accurate and professional manner both verbally and in writing.
• Training/public speaking experience.
• Experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities
• Possess an acceptable time and attendance record as specified in the time and attendance policy.
• Possess an acceptable work record.
