Minimum Qualifications Open Competitive: possession of a license and current registration to practice nursing in
New York State; and two years of post-licensure, specialized professional administrative
or professional clinical experience or Permanent Transfer Candidates: Current NYS employee with one year of permanent or contingent permanent competitive service as a Health Care Surveyor 2, G20, and eligible for transfer under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law OR Current NYS employee with one year of permanent or contingent permanent competitive service in a title G18 or higher and meeting the open competitive minimum qualifications listed below.


Preferred Qualifications: Experience providing direct care in a health care setting. Must have strong interpersonal, problem solving, decision-making and time management skills and the ability to communicate effectively with all internal and external stakeholders. In addition, the ideal Candidate must have excellent writing and editing skills and be able to effectively interpret laws and regulations governing skilled nursing facilities in New York State. High level of competence in using computer applications such as Microsoft Office Suite including but not limited to Office 365, Word and Excel. Working knowledge of Adobe, electronic transfer of data and electronic filing.

Duties Description As a Health Care Surveyor 2 (Nursing), you would be responsible for the surveillance and regulation of health care providers to ensure that care provided meets standards of practice and complies with State and Federal statutes and regulations. You may be involved in activities such as: serving as a member of a recertification, focused infection control survey or investigative team; investigating patient complaints and other complaints concerning facilities, individuals and health care professionals including conducting interviews of patients, family members and health care professionals; reviewing medical records for quality assurance purposes; reviewing quality assurance and discharge planning efforts. In the event of a health care emergency (e.g., a strike or disaster), you may be assigned to monitor patient care. In addition, you would be expected to write clear and concise reports using agency software; be prepared to testify regarding your findings; utilize computer systems to evaluate medical data. Extensive travel and work during off hours and weekends is be required.

Additional Comments *Posted salary range includes the statutory hiring rate at Step 4 and job rate for PS&T Grade 20 ($77,029 - $86,140) and an additional Geographic Pay Differential of $35,000 and a Downstate Adjustment of $3,026.
