Transfer Opportunity: Candidates must have one year of permanent service as a Senior Physical Therapist or in a title deemed appropriate for transfer via Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law within two salary grades of the Grade 18 level;

Temporary Appointment:
For appointment to the Senior Physical Therapist title, the candidate must be licensed and currently registered to practice as a Physical Therapist in New York State AND have a minimum of one year of post licensure physical therapy experience.
OR
Promotion: One year of service as a Physical Therapist, and possession of a license and current registration as a Physical Therapist in New York State.

Open Competitive: Possession of a license and current registration as a Physical Therapist in New York State and one year of post-licensure experience.

Senior Physical Therapist is a continuous recruitment examination. Candidates who are not on the eligible list may apply for this position and, if appointed, will receive a temporary appointment. Candidates appointed temporary must receive a score that is reachable on the resulting eligible list before they can be permanently appointed. Candidates who are found not qualified or who do not receive a reachable score may not be retained.

Duties Description POSITION DESCRIPTION:
The Senior Physical Therapist works under the general direction of a higher-level, licensed physical therapist or clinician, independently providing a variety of physical therapy treatment services to individuals with severe or acute physical disabilities. The Senior Physical Therapist may also provide clinical supervision and training to Physical Therapy Assistants and less experienced Physical Therapists.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities: Duties could include but are not limited to the need to:
• Implement and execute established patient treatment plans such as guiding and instructing individuals on physical therapy interventions and the use of assistive devices, including exercises and other therapeutic activities such as teaching patients exercises for mobility, strength, balance, and gait coordination directed at restoring specific body and ambulation functions.
• Observe and report upon individuals progress, responses, and behaviors and recommend modifications to clinical treatment plans based on their observations.
• Communicate with referring physicians, nurses, service coordinators, and other members of the individual’s treatment team.
• Maintain treatment records and documentation in accordance with program standards and requirements.
• Assemble, clean, and maintain physical therapy equipment for individuals’ use.
• Coordinate physical therapy activities with other health care providers as deemed necessary.
• Monitor physical therapy supply inventories.
• Schedule individuals’ appointments and procedures.
• Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by supervisor.

NOTE: Travel within the five-county catchment area will be required in the performance of the duties of the position. This may include use of a state-owned vehicle, as available, or the employee’s own car. An employee who uses his/her own car will be reimbursed at current negotiated rates.

Additional Comments *Posted Hiring Salary includes the sum of statutory hiring rate ($61,270) and Mid-Hudson Adjustment ($1,513). The Mid-Hudson Adjustment ($1,513) is also added to job rate ($77,912).
