Minimum Qualifications Student Intern Program - Eligibility Requirements:
Eligibility
To be considered for the New New York Leaders: Student Intern Program, students must:
• Be a United States citizen or foreign national eligible to work in the United States
• Be 18 years of age or older
• Be actively enrolled in a New York State college, university, or graduate program, or be a resident of New York State, attending a college, university or graduate program outside of New York State*
• Have completed a minimum of one (1) year as a student at a degree-granting two or four-year college or university (completion of one year's worth of academic credits over a longer period may qualify part-time students for participation in the program), or be a currently enrolled graduate student or accepted in a graduate degree program
• Have a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 2.0, or the letter grade equivalent

• Interpersonal and communication skills
• Organizational skills, efficiency, and flexibility

Duties Description The New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets is a Student Assistant to work at the Great New York State Fair from May through September 2023. The Student Assistant will perform a variety of paraprofessional, technical, and professional duties in support of the Sponsorships Department within the Division of the New York State Fair.

This position is conveniently located at the New York State Fairgrounds at 581 State Fair Boulevard, Syracuse, New York. We offer a professional and comfortable working environment with ample free parking. This is a PEF-represented position that offers a competitive hourly rate of $15.17.

Division of the State Fair:

The New York State Fair and Fairgrounds are used to promote and highlight New York State and its agriculture, commerce, arts, and sciences to residents of the State of New York. As part of this mission, the New York State Fair provides an educational forum for agriculture and commerce; enhances the image of New York’s agriculture and commerce; provides affordable, quality entertainment and educational opportunities for the people of New York; contributes to the efforts of the State, industry, associations and private businesses in the promotion and marketing of agriculture and agri-business; and creatively provides opportunities for economic growth by producing revenues and providing jobs.

The annual State Fair, held for 13 days ending on Labor Day, preserves and enhances the agricultural legacy of the State of New York and promotes current and future agricultural awareness. The State Fair hosts statewide competitions in the breeding and showing of horses and livestock and the production of quality wine, vegetables, fruit, honey, maple syrup, flowers, forage, and grain.
