Minimum Qualifications Current New York State employee with one year or more of qualifying permanent service in a position allocated to a Grade 20 or above and eligible for transfer under Section 70.1* of the Civil Service Law.
*Proof of passing the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES) Fundamentals in Engineering (FE) exam is required.
General Public Minimum Qualifications:

The minimum qualifications for examination are as follows:
Either 1. a bachelor's degree or higher in engineering or engineering technology as listed below;
Or 2. proof of passing the NCEES Fundamentals of Engineering Examination (FE) AND one year of full-time engineering experience as listed below.
Qualifying degrees: Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or Engineering Science with a recognized concentration in any of the above listed engineering degrees.
Qualifying experience: One year of full-time engineering experience in Mechanical/HVAC.
Successful completion of a two-year traineeship and proof of passing the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES) Fundamentals in Engineering (FE) exam leads to an appointment as an Assistant Engineer, SG-20.
Duties Description • Design and review plans for heating, ventilating, refrigeration and air conditioning projects for new construction and rehabilitation of existing State facilities. These projects may involve needed design changes for heating, ventilating and air conditioning systems of existing facilities that can present complex problems in order to be compatible with the plans for existing building structures.
• Prepare and review mechanical specifications, mechanical estimates and studies for energy conservation for the mechanical design projects.
• Oversee and inspect construction projects at State Owned facilities.
• Ensure conformance to contract requirements.
• Coordinate with multiple contractors and consultants on multiple projects.
• Review shop drawings.
• Respond to contractor Requests for Information.
• Create and/or review Information Bulletins.
• Provide similar construction administration and observation during the project’s construction.
• Supervise and review consultant work.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
• Some travel may be required.
