Salary RangeFrom $61270 to $86140 Annually
Minimum Qualifications Current New York State employee with one year or more of qualifying permanent service in a position allocated to a Grade 20 or above and eligible for transfer under Section 70.1* of the Civil Service Law.
*Proof of passing the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES) Fundamentals in Engineering (FE) exam is required.

Candidates must have:
Either 1. a bachelor's degree or higher in engineering or engineering technology as listed below;
Or 2. proof of passing the NCEES Fundamentals of Engineering Examination (FE) AND one year of full-time engineering experience as listed below.
Qualifying degrees: Civil Engineering, Civil Engineering Technology, Materials Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, Metallurgical and Materials Engineering, Structural Engineering, or Engineering Science with a recognized concentration in any of the above listed engineering degrees
Qualifying experience: One year of full-time engineering experience in in the analysis and design of steel framing, concrete framing, concrete foundations, and seismic design.
Successful completion of a two-year traineeship and proof of passing the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES) Fundamentals in Engineering (FE) exam leads to an appointment as an Assistant Engineer, SG-20.
Duties Description Duties may include but are not limited to the following:
• Supervise and inspect building construction projects of moderate size and complexity.
• Coordinate the operations of contractors and ensure conformity of work to contract estimates, specifications, standards, and construction practice.
• Assist higher level staff on larger projects.
• Recommend and prepare contract change orders.
• May supervise consultant work.
• Some travel required.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
