This includes Buffalo, Rochester, Syracuse, New Rochelle, Albany and New York City.
Minimum Qualifications A Ph.D. in an appropriate field and board certification as a Medical
Physicist from either the American Board of Radiology or the American Board of Medical Physics.
Preferred Qualifications: The preferred candidate will have 5 years or more as a practicing medical physicist.
Duties Description The Medical Physicist, Grade 27, will develop guidance documents for radiation equipment registrants and licensees in the use of new medical radiation technologies. This work is critical to ensure patient safety and accurate treatment delivery to keep pace with innovation and introduction of new devices and techniques in the use of radiation in diagnosis and treatment of disease.
The incumbent will review medical misadministration reports (that involve the use of radiation) from records and on-site investigations of medical events involving radiation and analyze the data from data systems regarding frequency, causes, and contributing factors of radiation misadministration. This ongoing effort is critical to ensure patient safety and accuracy of treatment delivery. The Medical Physicist will train staff on proper data collection, operation, and use of new technology in radiation oncology. The Incumbent will also work will national organizations to share findings and information to develop new guidance for patient safety and care and perform other duties as deemed necessary by the Bureau Director.
Additional Comments Permanent, full-time, non-competitive appointment. Occasional travel throughout New York State to areas not served by public transportation may be required. (10%).
