Minimum Qualifications Current New York State employee with one year or more of permanent, contingent-permanent, labor, or 55b/c service as a Supervising Janitor OR Active list candidate on the New York State Department of Civil Service's Supervising Janitor eligible list# 26-236 with a score of 90 or higher.
Provisional: Current New York State employee with one year or more of permanent competitive, non-competitive, labor, or 55-b/55-c service as a Janitor, Housekeeper, Supervising Housekeeper, or Facility Operations Assistant 2.
Preferred Qualifications: Candidate must be able to work independently and as part of a team as well as handle multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Duties Description The Supervising Janitor will be assigned to David Axelrod Institute and will be responsible for supervising and supporting one State and six contract janitorial staff, as well as maintaining the cleaning supplies inventory. The incumbent will plan and schedule staff assignments and cleaning services, supervise the proper distribution of cleaning equipment and supplies, inspect buildings and assigned areas for compliance with cleaning guidelines, and establish training standards and train new staff.
Additional Comments Permanent, Competitive or Provisional, full-time. Transfer candidates may be asked for SSN to verify title history and eligibility. Provisional candidates will be required to take the next Civil Service promotional examination for the Supervising Janitor and be eligible for immediate appointment from the resulting eligible list to maintain continued employment. If three or fewer New York State Department of Health promotional candidates respond to this notice, the agency may, at its discretion, nominate a qualified employee for non-competitive
promotion under the provisions of Section 52.7 of the Civil Service Law. Employees must have one year or more of permanent or contingent-permanent, competitive service in qualifying titles as described on the last Civil Service promotion examination held for this title, #38-578. If certified by Civil Service, mandatory reemployment list candidates must be considered first for appointment to this title.
