Minimum Qualifications "Research Scientist 1 (G18): Bachelor's degree in the natural sciences and two years of post-degree professional research experience in an appropriate field, or a Master's degree in the appropriate field and one year of post-degree professional research experience in that field.
Research Scientist 2 (G22): Bachelor's degree in the natural sciences and three years of post-degree professional research experience in an appropriate field, or a Master's degree in the appropriate field and two years of such experience; or a doctorate in the appropriate field."
Preferred Qualifications: Experience an analytical organic laboratory. Experience with sample preparation and analysis of biological/clinical specimens for organic chemical analysis. Hands on experience and in-depth knowledge of the operation of liquid chromatography mass spectrometry (LC/MS), gas chromatography mass spectrometry (GC/MS), automated solid phase extraction (SPE) and other related techniques. Experience working within a CLIA-regulated laboratory performing high complexity testing, reporting patient test results, writing CLIA-compliant SOPs, preparing for CLIA-audits and inspections, and other activities related to the clinical quality management system. Experience with project coordination and outreach to providers/stakeholders/etc.
Duties Description A Research Scientist is needed to support the Organic Analytical Chemistry Laboratory. The laboratory’s expertise is being depended on to identify and quantitate trace chemical compounds in environmental and clinical samples. The Organic Analytical Chemistry Lab is responsible for the analysis of environmental and biological samples for specific target compounds suspected in association with public health problems. The incumbent will monitor and coordinate the day-to-day analysis and development of an emerging Polyfluorinated Substances methods; perform quality control/quality assurance activities and lab maintenance; assist with project coordination; and perform other appropriate related duties.
