Minimum Qualifications Non-Competitive: Bachelor's degree in the natural sciences and three years of post-degree professional research experience in an appropriate field, or a Master's degree in the appropriate field and two years of such experience; or a doctorate in the appropriate field.

Preferred Qualifications: Experience in implementation and application of both general and technical aspects of an ISO based Quality Management System. Laboratory experience preferably in inorganic and/or organic chemistry environmental or cannabis analyses.

Duties Description The Research Scientist 2 will be responsible for assisting the Wadsworth Center Quality Assurance Officer with the implementation and maintenance of both general and technical aspects of the Quality Management System for the Division of Environmental Health Sciences for environmental testing, food testing, cannabis product testing, and the manufacture & validation of environmental proficiency tests. Duties of this position may include writing, reviewing, and revising Standard Operating Procedures; maintaining hard copy and electronic document control systems; performing investigations of nonconformities; managing the corrective action system; performing internal audits; assiting with the coordination of external audits; writing and compiling management review reports; collating and reviewing external proficiency test results; reviewing analytical data packages to ensure compliance with applicable requirements; reviewing method detection limit and minimum reporting limit studies and tracking annual evaluations; reviewing and tracking ongoing demonstration of capability studies; managing shared support equipment inventory and related records; assisting with training and maintenance of related records; assisting with purchasing; and other quality assurance tasks as assigned.

Additional Comments Dependent upon the initial assignment or subsequent reassignment of this position satisfactory background checks may be required. Additionally, exposure to potentially hazardous substances may be involved with this position; the selected candidate may be required to wear personal protective clothing and equipment, and may undergo pre-employment and/or periodic health evaluations and receive specific immunizations.
