Duties Description The New York State Education Department is seeking applicants for the position of Legal Assistant 2 to support the Office of the Professions. Under the direction of the Assistant Counsel, the Legal Assistant 2 will assist the Office of Professional Discipline staff in legal writing, research, and technical assistance for caseloads spanning the more than 50 professions that are licensed and overseen by the Office of the Professions. Other duties include, but are not limited to the following activities:

• Provide critical legal support by conducting research and analysis on legal issues relevant to the prosecutions division;
• Assist with the drafting of legal memos and documents for hearings and/or legal proceedings, and settlement documents;
• Work with various legal and scheduling databases that are necessary to assist the prosecutions division; and
• Provide legal and administrative support in the preparation of documents and witnesses for settlement conferences, hearings, Regents Review Committee.

Additional Comments CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: This will be a permanent appointment. For 55b/c appointment, candidates must possess the minimum qualifications, a current 55b/c eligibility letter and is subject to verification of applicant eligibility. Promotions and transfers may change appointees’ negotiating unit. Applicants should be aware that changes in negotiating units may affect their salary, insurance, and other benefits. Verification of degree and/or transcripts will be required for all candidates at the time of interview.

This position leads to a maximum salary of $73,813 based on annual performance advances.

Based on this position’s location, in addition to the listed base salary, this position also receives a $3,026 Downstate Adjustment.
