Minimum Qualifications Non-Competitive: bachelor’s degree in the natural sciences and two years of post-degree professional research experience in an appropriate field, or a Master's degree in the appropriate field and on year of post-degree professional research experience in that field.
Preferred Qualifications: Knowledge of genetics, experience in clinical testing at the bench level. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Duties Description Under the direction of a Research Scientist IV, the Research Scientist 1 will support the Newborn Screening (NBS) program provide critical mandated testing to newborns for 50 genetic conditions. Within the NBS, the incumbent will be responsible for the gathering and testing of blood samples and reporting the results of those tests within Federally recommended timelines and assist to establish new newtorks of speciality care centers charges with the medical management of the abnormal confisitons identified by the NBS lab. This Research Scientist position will serve an integral role within the NBS program by performing the critical testing in the newborn screening laboratory.
Additional Comments Dependent upon the initial assignment or subsequent reassignment of this position satisfactory background checks may be required. Additionally, exposure to potentially hazardous substances may be involved with this position; the selected candidate may be required to wear personal protective clothing and equipment, and may undergo pre-employment and/or periodic health evaluations and receive specific immunizations.
