Minimum Qualifications Six months of experience climbing and pruning trees and, at the time of appointment, the candidate must meet the physical and medical standards set by the Director of Employee Health Service.
Must possess a Commercial Driver’s License and be able to operate a large dump truck under snow and ice conditions.
Duties Description Under the direct or indirect supervision of a Tree Pruner Supervisor, tree pruners perform a variety of tasks in the care and maintenance of trees under supervision, including but not limited to the following:
• Climbs trees using climbing equipment or uses a bucket truck to reach branches to be trimmed or removed;
• Rigs ropes and tackle for self, tools and for removing parts of the tree;
• Cuts down trees using chain saws; Operates chippers, log loaders, bucket trucks and other heavy equipment; applies herbicides to kill brush and weeds; Lubricates, adjusts, cleans and otherwise maintains the tools and equipment used;
• Performs one person plowing and snow and ice functions during the winter season.
Responsibilities may include serving a role within the Incident Command System to support the department’s response to regional and statewide emergency situations
Additional Comments The starting salary for Tree Pruner is $57,286. This amount is comprised of the base salary of $46,886 with an additional geographic pay differential of $10,400, specific to this title and location.
