Minimum Qualifications "Research Scientist 1 (G18): Bachelor's degree in the natural sciences or related field and two years of post-degree professional research experience in an appropriate field, or a Master's degree in the appropriate field and one year of post-degree professional research experience in that field.
Research Scientist 2 (G22): Bachelor's degree in the natural sciences or related field and three years of post-degree professional research experience in an appropriate field, or a Master's degree in the appropriate field and two years of such experience; or a doctorate in the appropriate field."
Preferred Qualifications: The preferred candidate will have experience working with bloodborne pathogens and handling blood specimens; experience performing serological and molecular testing methods, experience preparing standard operating procedures, experience conducting clinical test validation studies; experience using spreadsheets and databases; excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Duties Description "RS1: The Research Scientist 1 (G18) will perform essential public health laboratory duties related to human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and hepatitis C virus (HCV) testing for the Bloodborne Viruses Laboratory (BVL), including clinical testing using serological and molecular test methods, development and validation of new laboratory assays, preparing standard operating procedures and participating in surveillance and outbreak investigation activities.
RS2: The Research Scientist 2 (G22) will perform essential public health laboratory duties related to human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and hepatitis C virus (HCV) testing for the Bloodborne Viruses Laboratory (BVL), including clinical testing using serological and molecular test methods, training and supervision of personnel, development and validation of new laboratory assays, preparing standard operating procedures, conducting surveillance and outbreak investigation activities, and reviewing laboratory-developed test applications for the Clinical Laboratory Evaluation Program (CLEP). "
Additional Comments Permanent, non-competitive, fulltime. Since exposure to potentially hazardous substances may be involved with this position, the selected candidate will be required to wear personal protective clothing and equipment. Work hours may be variable. Some travel may be required.
