Minimum Qualifications Journey-level SAM (Equivalent to grade 12): Possession of a valid New York State Class D Driver License or an equivalent license issued by another state. (Candidates must obtain a CDL-B License with no air brake restriction within the probationary period); four years of experience in the facilities maintenance, mechanical and/or electrical trades, such as HVAC, plumbing, electrical, carpentry, etc. (or some combination of same); possession of the appropriate Department of Environmental Conservation Wastewater Treatment Certificate for the plant at which the candidate will be working.
SAM Trainee 1 (Equivalent to Grade 10): Possession of a valid New York State Class D Driver License or an equivalent license issued by another state (candidates must obtain a CDL-B License with no air brake restriction within 12 months of the appointment date); possession of a High School Diploma or GED; and three years of experience in the facilities maintenance, mechanical and/or electrical trades, such as HVAC, plumbing, electrical, carpentry, etc. (or some combination of same). Candidates must obtain the appropriate Department of Environmental Conservation Wastewater Treatment Certificate for the plant at which the candidate will be working during the probationary period in order to be advanced to the journey-level SAM. Failure to obtain the appropriate certificate will result in probationary termination.

Duties Description Responsible for the maintenance and operation of all buildings and Authority owned equipment at an assigned service area complex.

Additional Comments Rotating seven-day work schedule. SAM Trainees start at $19.25 per hour; If qualified for appointment to journey-level (grade 12), the salary begins at hiring rate of $21.01 per hour. Salary increases upon successful completion for each year until job rate has been met.

This position belongs to the Teamsters Bargaining Unit starting New York State salary is non negotiable.

Free onsite employee parking. Hours and eligibility for remote work will be discussed at time of interview.

This is a NYS Thruway Authority Unit 1 Teamsters position:

Health Insurance and Prescription Drug Coverage.

Dental and Vision Coverage.

13 Paid Holidays, 4 of which are floating holidays, which are credited in July each year for use from July 1st through June 30th.

Vacation, Sick and Personal Accruals.

Sick Leave is credited at the rate of one-half day each biweekly pay period up to a total of 165 days.

Sick Leave Incentive Plan – Employees who have not accumulated 165 sick days and have not used sick leave during the periods of January 1st to June 30th or July 1st to December 31st, each year, may receive two days of pay for each six-month period. Employees who have a sick leave balance of 165 days, and continuously maintain that balance for each six-month period, may receive four days of pay for each six-month period.

Employees with 20+ years of continuous Authority/State service may receive up to an additional five days of vacation leave accruals annually.

Membership in the New York State and Local Retirement System, as well as optional enrollment in the NYS Deferred Compensation Plan.

Tuition Assistance Program which reimburses 90% of tuition costs for approved courses up to 15 credit hours per year.

New York's 529 College Savings Program, which provides New York families with a tax-advantaged way to save for college.

Flexible Spending Program, which allows employees to set aside pre-tax payroll deductions for eligible health care and dependent care expenses.

Service Award Payments - Upon completion of 10 years of Authority service, eligible employees will receive a 10-year Service Award Payment. Payments are then awarded every five years as noted in the contract until 30 years of Authority service is reached. Service Awards have a positive impact on retirement.?

Employees are paid bi-weekly, with no lag time.

Some positions will be eligible for downstate and/or geographical pay depending on location and title.
