Minimum Qualifications Non-Competitive: Bachelor's degree in the natural sciences and two years of post-degree professional research experience in an appropriate field, or a Master's degree in the appropriate field and one year of post-degree professional research experience in that field.
Preferred Qualifications: Knowledge of genetics, experience in clinical testing at the bench level, excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Duties Description Under the direction of a Research Scientist 2, the Research Scientist 1 will screen babies using an immunoassay to detect an analyte in blood that identifies babies at increased risk for Duchenne muscular dystrophy. The laboratory is responsible for testing, reporting, data analysis, quality control and quality assurance in order to comply with NYS clinical laboratory requirements. Staff in the laboratory are responsible for accessioning approximately 1000 samples daily and preparing them for testing, performing testing and reporting results daily.
