Preferred Qualifications: A minimum of eight years of experience in the area of vector borne disease related activities. Documented experience as a lead researcher of a team conducting vector surveillance activities, entomological field work, and performing laboratory testing. Excellent organizational and communication skills, which includes both public speaking and preparation of written materials such as reports, abstracts, grant applications, and publications. Familiarity with surveillance and outbreak response activities. Lead or co-author of multiple scientific publications. Experience supervising professional level staff. Familiarity with computer-based software packages, such as GIS, Microsoft Access, Word, Excel, etc.

Duties Description The Research Scientist 3 (Epidemiology)/Research Scientist 4 (Epidemiology), G-25/G-27, will support the Vector Borne Disease Program within the Bureau of Communicable Disease Control. The incumbent will design and conduct field and laboratory studies to investigate the prevalence of pathogens in arthropod populations, with a focus on tick borne diseases.

The incumbent will coordinate and conduct all phases of scientific investigation including problem identification, planning, execution, data analysis, problem resolution, interpretation, and reporting of findings. This will include supervision of laboratory and field work conducted by lower level research staff, interpretation of laboratory findings, determination of geographic areas and/or appropriate sites for targeted research, the compilation and publication of reports of information and data collected, and the development of scientific data from epidemiological investigations for publication and presentation.
