Minimum Qualifications Research Scientist 2 / Grade 22: A bachelors degree in Biology, Public Health, Epidemiology, Infection Control, Statistics/Biostatistics, Biomedical Science, Environmental Health, Environmental Science, or a related degree (Related degrees may include Medical Anthropology, Psychology, Nutrition, Nursing, Pharmacology, Mathematics, Education, Medical Geography, Sociology, Economics, or other relevant Social Science, or Natural Sciences) AND at least three years of relevant post-degree professional research experience in an appropriate field; OR a Master’s degree in one of the above fields, AND at least 2 years of post-degree professional research experience; OR a doctoral degree in one of the above fields.

Preferred Qualifications: The preferred candidate will have a graduate degree in public health, epidemiology, environmental health/science, or statistics/biostatistics; experience with lead safety and healthy housing initiatives; experience presenting information to the public and various stakeholder groups; and proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.

Duties Description Under the direction of a senior level Research Scientist, the Research Scientist (RS) 2 will work independently and with other research scientists in the collection, management, analysis, and interpretation of data to inform decisions about regulatory practices, stimulate public health action, and disseminate information to various audiences.

Responsibilities will include designing and conducting research studies on cross-cutting initiatives, including the development of a statewide lead rental registry program, and identifying associations between rental unit lead hazard frequency, severity, or persistence and elevated blood lead levels. The RS 2 will perform data organization, data linkage and analysis, summarize results through tables, graphs, and reports; advise Department of Health staff on epidemiologic studies and data interpretation; and provide recommendations for public health protection and policy.

Additional Comments Contingent permanent, non-competitive, full-time position. Occasional travel to areas that may not be served by public transportation may be required (5%).
