Minimum Qualifications The Office of New York State Senator James Sanders is seeking a highly qualified and motivated Legal Counsel to join his team in Albany, New York, and occasionally in New York City, to provide legal expertise and support to the Senator. In this role, you will work closely with Senator Sanders to advise on legislative matters, research, and analyze legal issues, and contribute to the development of policies that impact the constituents of New York State.

The most qualified candidate must possess:

•Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school
•Admission to the New York State Bar
•Strong research and analytical skills
•Excellent written and verbal communication abilities
•Demonstrated commitment to public service and an understanding of New York State's political landscape
•Ability to work independently and as part of a team
•Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail
•Previous experience in legislative affairs, legal counsel, or a related field preferred

Duties Description The individual in this dynamic role will have the following responsibilities:

•Provide legal guidance and analysis on legislative matters, bills, and policy proposals
•Research and draft legal documents, memos, and reports for the Senator
•Assist in the development and review of proposed legislation
•Collaborate with stakeholders, government agencies, and other legislative staff
•Attend committee meetings and hearings, providing legal insight when necessary
•Monitor legal developments and policy changes relevant to the Senator's work
•Address constituent inquiries and concerns related to legal and policy matters
•Maintain confidentiality and ethical standards in all legal activities

Additional Comments Starting salary range is $70,000 to $80,000, commensurate with education and experience.
