Duties Description Provide program supervision for Region 6 Division of Environmental Remediation with a focus on Spill Prevention and Response. Supervise staff in the Watertown Regional Headquarters office, as well as the Potsdam and Utica suboffices, including Professional Engineers and Geologists. Responsible for Emergency Response staff working outside normal business hours, and must be able to provide technical and engineering support to field staff. During significant incidents, the incumbent must be available for consultation with Regional Management and the DEC Emergency Management Unit, and where appropriate, may be required to respond in the field to emergency incidents, including off-hours. Successful completion of mandatory training requirements will include Hazardous Waste Operations, Hazardous Materials Technician certification, Emergency Vehicle Operation, Incident Command, and other training as required by supervisor. Review, modify, and approve engineering documents for remedial system designs, and issue Major Oil Storage Facility licenses (must be signed by a NYS Professional Engineer.)

Additional Comments Must have a valid driver’s license or demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation needs of the position. Use of personal protection equipment, including a respirator, will be required. Must be able to negotiate difficult terrain Must be able to work in remote areas. Must be able to work in adverse weather conditions. Travel may be required. Overtime may be required. Overnight travel may be required. Weekends and holidays may be required. Must be available for emergency response. Must be available to respond to after-hours emergencies. Must complete an annual Health and Safety Program including medical monitoring, fit testing, and 40 (or 8) hour OSHA HAZWOPER certification. Must be able to lift and move objects up to 50 pounds. Telecommuting may be available, will be discussed at interview.
