Minimum Qualifications For Appointment to Internal Auditor 1, SG-18:
• Reachable on current Civil Service eligible list for this title; OR
• One year of permanent, competitive class service as an Internal Auditor 1; OR
• One year of permanent, competitive class service in a title eligible for transfer under Section 70.1 or Section 52.6 of the Civil Service Law. Eligible titles include, but aren’t limited to: Business Systems Analyst 1, Information Technology Specialist 2, Information Technology Specialist 2 (Programming), Senior Administrative Analyst; OR
• A bachelor's degree in accounting, actuarial science, auditing, banking, business administration, business management, community health, computer information systems, computer science, criminal justice, criminal science, criminology, cybersecurity, digital forensics, economics, finance, financial market regulations, forensics, government, homeland security, information science, information security, information technology, internal auditing, justice studies, law enforcement, management information systems, management information technology, mathematics, operations research, political science, public administration, public affairs, public health, public justice, public policy, public policy and management, quantitative analysis, research methods, statistics, or taxation AND two years of professional experience in conducting internal audits; financial statement audits; compliance reviews; or program research, review, and appraisal.
o A Juris Doctor, master's or higher degree in a related field can substitute for one year of specialized experience.

Duties Description The Internal Auditor 1/Trainee 1/2 (the Auditor) will work under the direction of an Audit Manager and will be responsible for participating in a team that conducts independent, objective, and complex internal audits and analysis of NYSIF operations to ensure compliance with established policies and procedures and to assess the effectiveness of controls. The Auditor will conduct operational, compliance, financial and/or IT audits from initial entrance conference through final reporting; review and evaluate operating controls; and evaluate operations for compliance, effectiveness, and efficiency. Approximately 10% travel is required. The Auditor may travel to other State Insurance Fund Business Offices as needed. Specific duties of this position will be discussed in greater detail at the time of interview.

The New York State Insurance Fund (NYSIF) was established in 1914 as part of the original
enactment of the New York State Workers’ Compensation Law. NYSIF's mission is to guarantee the availability of workers’ compensation insurance at the lowest possible cost to New York employers and to provide timely, appropriate indemnity and medical payments to injured workers, while maintaining a solvent fund. Since inception, NYSIF has fulfilled the dual roles for which it was created: to compete with other carriers to ensure a fair marketplace and to be a guaranteed source of coverage for employers who cannot secure coverage elsewhere.
NYSIF is the largest workers’ compensation carrier in New York State and among the top ten largest workers’ compensation carriers in the nation, insuring approximately 131,000 policyholders, with more than $1.6 billion in annual earned premium and over $22 billion in assets. A self-supporting insurance carrier, NYSIF operates without taxpayer funding.
In addition to workers’ compensation insurance, NYSIF provides disability benefits coverage for off-the-job injuries to more than 57,500 New York employers. In 2018, NYSIF added paid family leave as a component of its disability benefits product, providing New Yorkers with job-protected, paid time away from work to care for their families.
