Minimum Qualifications Non-competitive Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree* with 15 credit hours in Cyber Security, Information Assurance, or Information Technology OR bachelor's degree candidates without at least 15 course credits in cyber security, information assurance, or information technology, requires an additional year of general information technology experience to qualify. **

Appropriate information security or information assurance experience may substitute for the bachelor's degree on a year for-year basis; an associate degree requires an additional two years of general information technology experience.

Duties Description • Research new security techniques and methodologies.
• Provide security assistance to the Chief Information Office (CIO) teams with evaluating security controls and providing secure solutions.
• Assist with security related questions.
• Research and respond to security exception requests.
• Assist with ServiceNow Tickets requests.
• Assist with New Technology reviews.
• Assist with meetings on various security related topics, including but not limited to, attending, organizing, taking notes, and assessing security control strength.
• Research security related items for all agency projects.
• Assist with the development and implementation of the Office of the State Comptroller’s (OSC) security awareness program.
• Assist with training business units to classify information assets.
• Create security articles on security related issues that are important to OSC.
• Provide support and content for the security awareness program on the Information Security Office (ISO) website.
• Ensure participation, completion, and documentation of OSC’s security awareness training course.
Additional Comments Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• Working knowledge in any of the following security areas:
o NIST Special Publications
o FedRAMP Program
o CIS Critical Security Controls
o Security Policies, Access Controls (Data Protection)
o Vulnerability Assessment and Remediation
o Encryption
o Malware Defenses.
• Demonstrated experience in researching and gathering security business requirements.
• Ability to maintain sensitive and confidential information.
• Working knowledge of assessing risk.
• Strong analytical thinker with excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to clearly articulate information technology and information security concepts.
• Strong customer service skills.
• Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
Telecommuting:
The Office of the New York State Comptroller (OSC) supports telecommuting where it is reasonable to do so based upon the agency’s mission and operational needs. Generally, employees new to OSC will be restricted from telecommuting for at least 8 calendar weeks. After the initial 8 calendar week restriction, if an employee’s duties and work performance are aligned with telecommuting they may be allowed to do so. Upon approval to telecommute, OSC employees may telecommute up to 5 days per pay period.
