Minimum Qualifications In addition to having a minimum of five years’ experience as a statewide policy, political director with an advanced degree, or seven to 10 years’ experience as an Executive Director of a statewide organization or Political Director and/or Legislative Director of a statewide Political Action Committee, the most idea candidate will be a strong administrator with solid management experience and superior interpersonal skills. Knowledge of the Senate budget process, human resource practices, and ethics rules are preferred.
Duties Description New York State Senator James Sanders seeks a detail-oriented, goal-focused Chief of Staff to supervise all staff at the Senator’s Albany and District Offices. The qualified applicants must possess the ability to manage key administrative functions, monitor compliance with Senate rules and guidelines, implement office policies, operating procedures, and oversee the annual budget.
Additionally, you will oversee key staff related operations including but not limited to:
•Recruitment and hiring
•Payroll
•Benefits
•Staff training
•Promoting diversity and inclusion
•Management of constituent services
•Coordinate and organize community events throughout District Offices and in Albaqny
•Supervise senior staff in tracking legislation!
•Coordinate meetings with lobbyists, constituents, interest groups, and labor unions to discuss legislative agenda and concerns
•Serve as the lead liaison for the Senator to federal, state, city, and private agencies
Additional Comments This full-time position is based in the District Office located in Jamaica. The salary range is $80,000 to $90,000, commensurate with education and experience.
