Minimum Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Duties Description The New York State Education Department’s (NYSED) Office of Performance Improvement and Management is seeking candidates for a Janitor position in the Office of Facilities and Business Services. The incumbent of this position will be a working supervisor, who will supervise the day-to-day activities of cleaners assigned to the day shift for quality assurance. Duties of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:
• A working knowledge of the methods and equipment used in janitorial services, floor, building, and biohazard care, plus light maintenance work;
• Perform general cleaning and disinfection tasks;
• Collect and remove trash, recycling, and transport to centralized location for disposal;
• Washes floors, corridors, stairwells, walls, partitions, and windows using mops, detergents, brushes, and other cleaning devices;
• Vacuums, strips and waxes floors, and shampoos carpets, using manual or mechanical equipment.
• Scrubs and cleans restrooms and, using hand-operated equipment and cleaning agents; and unclogs toilets, traps, and sinks;
• Sweeps, removes snow, and salts walkways;
• Prepares, mixes, and dilutes cleaning solutions following manufacturer directions;
• Reports and recommends necessary repairs and maintenance requiring skilled trades work to supervisor;
• Assists with the supervision of lower-level staff. Assigns tasks; provides instructions, training, and assistance;
• Demonstrates proper cleaning procedures; and
• Reviews work of teams and monitors time and attendance.
Additional Comments CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Promotions and transfers may change appointees’ negotiating unit. Candidates should be aware that changes in negotiating units may affect their salary, insurance, and other benefits. Incumbents of this position are considered essential personnel. The work schedule for this position includes hours of Saturday-Wednesday (8:00am-4:00pm). Overtime may be required at times for this position.
This position leads to a maximum salary of $45,864 based on annual performance advances.
