Eligibility
To be considered for the New New York Leaders: Student Intern Program, students must:
• Be a United States citizen or foreign national eligible to work in the United States
• Be 18 years of age or older
• Be actively enrolled in a New York State college, university, or graduate program, or be a resident of New York State, attending a college, university, or graduate program outside of New York State*
• Have completed a minimum of one (1) year as a student at a degree-granting two or four-year college or university (completion of one year's worth of academic credits over a longer period may qualify part-time students for participation in the program), or be a currently enrolled graduate student or accepted in a graduate degree program
• Have a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 2.0, or the letter grade equivalent
Professional Skills
A student intern should have the following skills:
• Analytical and evaluative skills
• Interpersonal and communication skills
• Organizational skills, efficiency, and flexibility
• Computer skills, including familiarity with Microsoft products (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint), email software, internet searching, and other programs

Position Information:
The New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets is seeking a dedicated and motivated Student Assistant to join the Emergency Management team in Albany, NY. Responsibilities include developing training and exercise outreach, creating health and safety products, implementing and reviewing emergency operation and exercise design documents and safety and security procedures. Technical duties include general data entry, document resource management, a strong knowledge of cybersecurity practices, ArcGIS mapping, and creation of Power Automate flows. In addition, the role involves representing the agency in the New York State Emergency Operations Center and at Emergency Support Function meetings during New York State activations.
After completing this student assistant assignment, the student will have received the following certifications to help propel them into the professional workforce:
* FEMA IS 100: Intro to Incident Command System
* FEMA IS 200: Basic Incident Command System for Initial Response
* FEMA IS 700: Intro to National Incident Management System
* FEMA IS 800: National Response Framework
* FEMA IS 2200: Basic Emergency Operations Center Functions
* NYS DHSES OEM New York Responds Certificate
* NYS DHSES OEM 2200 Basic Emergency Operations Center Functions
* *FEMA ICS 300 and 400 can be obtained depending on the student's availability.
This is a temporary position located at the Department of Agriculture and Markets headquarters at 10B Airline Drive in Albany, NY. We provide a professional and comfortable working environment with ample free parking. This position offers 20-30 hours per week with a pay rate of $16.10 per hour.
