Minimum Qualifications Must have at least four years of full-time experience in welding under a skilled tradesperson which would provide training equivalent to that given in a training, apprenticeship, or equivalent program; or an equivalent combination of experience and training gained by completion of technical courses in welding at a school, institute, or branch of the Armed Services.
New York State DOT welding certification for vertical (3G) or overhead (4G) applications is required for appointment.
Candidates must possess a valid New York State driver's license appropriate for the type of vehicle to be operated (Class D). Employees must continuously maintain this license thereafter or face possible disciplinary action up to & including termination.
Duties Description Candidate's work would include journey-level acetylene and electric arc welding, brazing, soldering, oxy-acetylene cutting, drilling, boring, and tapping in repairing all types of Canal structures, vessels, vehicles, and equipment; design, lay out and fabrication of moderately complex special equipment and tools of all sizes. This position may require supervision of other employees and helpers.
