For appointment to an Office Assistant 2 (Customer Service), you must have:
• One year of experience where most work time is spent performing various communication tasks centered on customer service, and primarily, but not exclusively, dealing with the general public.
Competitive Minimum Qualifications:
You must be currently reachable on the appropriate eligible list for this title or eligible to transfer to this title under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law.
For 70.1 transfer to an Office Assistant 2 (Customer Service), salary grade (SG)-09, you must have one year of permanent competitive, or 55-b/55-c service in an approved title for transfer allocated to a SG-07 or above.

Appointments via transfer must not result in a second, consecutive transfer with an advancement of more than two S-grades or one M-grade.
For appointment to this title, you may be required to pass a keyboarding test that demonstrates your ability to enter text using an alpha numeric computer keyboard, at a rate of at least 30 words per minute with at least 96% accuracy.
Duties Description Answer calls directed to the Office of Unclaimed Funds Communication Center
• Answer calls from claimants, Reporting Organizations, and other interested parties such as finders, attorneys, etc.
• Answer questions related to claim status and expected processing timeframes.
• Assist with claim form completion and required documentation.
• Identify property for Process by Phone (PBP) eligibility.
Process claims.
• Perform database searches using information provided by claimants.
• Establish claims.
• Input claimant contact information (name, address, phone number).
• Identify and link claim properties.
• Determine and request in writing (generate correspondence) for required proof and documentation or recommend payment according to agency rules, regulations, policies and/or procedures.
Answer emails directed to the Office of Unclaimed Funds Communication Center.
• Read and interpret e-mails and attached correspondence.
• Drafts responses.
• Attach images to appropriate claims.
• Request check status when necessary and complete change of address notifications.
Assist in training and helping OA1s in performing their duties.
• Assist OA1s in answering difficult calls, emails, and processing claims.
• Work with the UFE 1 on development and performance plans for OA1s.

• Familiarity with unclaimed funds
Telecommuting:
The Office of the New York State Comptroller (OSC) supports telecommuting where it is reasonable to do so based upon the agency’s mission and operational needs. Generally, employees new to OSC will be restricted from telecommuting for at least 8 calendar weeks. After the initial 8 calendar week restriction, if an employee’s primary residence location, duties, and work performance are aligned with telecommuting and operational needs they may be allowed to do so. Generally, OSC employees may telecommute up to 5 days per pay period but may be approved to telecommute less.
