Minimum Qualifications Required Qualifications:
A Master's degree in a relevant field.
A minimum of four (4) years' administrative, managerial and supervisory experience at the level of academic department chair, director, or above.
Professional experience and/or knowledge in one or more of the following areas:
Adult literacy and basic education
Workforce development
Continuing professional development
Informal and nonformal learning
Adult and lifelong learning policy
Adult development
Experience in developing and implementing strategic plans.
Experience in developing and managing budgets and resources effectively.
Proven ability to work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders, including community organizations, and industry partners.
Proven ability to understand the unique needs of adult learners.
Demonstrated ability to conduct research and engage others in developing curriculum for new classes and trainings in response to industry demand, corporate clients, and community need.
Preferred Qualifications:
A Doctoral degree in a relevant field.
Experience in developing and implementing strategic plans for academic programs or institutions.
Experience in developing and managing budgets and resources effectively, preferably in public higher education.
Proven ability to work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders, including other educational institutions, community organizations, and industry partners.
Demonstrated experience in promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion within the academic community.
Experience with fundraising, grant writing, or securing external funding.
Experience in leading or managing change within an academic setting.
Experience as an Instructional Technologist.
Champion online technology to increase efficiencies where applicable.
Duties Description Under the direction of the Provost, the Director of Professional Studies is responsible for the development and operation of the University's School of Professional Studies. The Director serves as a leader and advocate for development of programs in support of workforce development and adult education. The Director will foster an environment that promotes equity and inclusive excellence.
This position will be responsible but not limited to the following:
Managing the day-to-day operations, programming, and scheduling of the division.
Creating a vision and direction for the School of Professional Studies to ensure standards of academic programming and excellence are aligned with SUNY Old Westbury's standards.
Enhancing the school's focus on workforce development and adult education programs and credentials.
Being a leader in promoting the economic and social transformation of Nassau and Suffolk Counties, the Tri-State (New York City) region, and beyond.
Engaging in program development and evaluation.
Engaging in hiring and oversight of academic and non-academic personnel.
Collaborating with both internal and external partners to meet the needs of employers and students who are entering or returning to the workforce, as well as those who require upskilling for their current or future professions.
Participating, as appropriate, with development efforts to raise funds for the School.
Managing resources to provide specific program or service offerings to internal or external stakeholders, provides on-going professional development to faculty, staff, and administrators, and develops original curriculum and presents it college-wide.
Working with academic, professional staff, classified staff and non-unit professional leadership collegewide to continually assess professional development needs, align current offerings and programs, and identify new opportunities for professional growth.
SUPERVISORY AND OTHER RELATIONSHIPS:
This position is required to have extensive cooperative and collaborative relationships with faculty, staff, and other professionals in peer organizations and professional associations; and maintain these relationships and to garner other relationships as necessary.
PROFESSIONAL PARTICIPATION AND DEVELOPMENT:
In addition to the accountabilities listed above, the incumbent is required to carry out the essential duties of:
Attendance and participation at convocation, commencement and honors ceremonies;
Service on assigned committees and task forces;
Attendance and participation at committee, staff, informational and professional meetings.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
The Director of Professional Studies is required to have demonstrated advanced knowledge and abilities in the following areas:
Demonstrated leadership skills.
Experience with program management, including budgeting.
Experience working collaboratively with a wide and diverse range of stakeholders.
Experience working in a higher education environment.
Knowledge of recent trends in professional development, online/remote learning, and professional training.
Ability to establish strategy and direction for division.
Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
Ability to problem solve and provide team building skills.
Excellent interpersonal, organizational and communication skills.
Experience with academic and student affairs professional development programming, preferred.
Experience collaborating with academic, student and administrative affairs departments, preferred.
