Minimum Qualifications Non Competitive Promotion Qualification (NCP):
If the number of direct line candidates is three or less, a competitive examination will not be held and the agency, at its discretion, may nominate a candidate for a non-competitive promotion under the provision of Section 52.7 of the Civil Service Law. In order to be eligible for an NCP, candidates must have one year of permanent or 55b/c service as a Senior Security Officer or Chief Security Officer.

Provisional Qualifications:
Must be a qualified employee of the New York State Workers’ Compensation Board with one year of competitive or 55b/c service as a Senior Security Officer or Chief Security Officer.

If appointed provisionally, the incumbent will need to take the next Civil Service examination for this title and pass with a score that will be immediately reachable on the resulting eligible list. Failure to take, pass and achieve a reachable score on the examination may result in revocation of the appointment.

Duties Description Duties of this position include but are not limited to:
• Overall supervision of staff in five locations;
• Timely review and completion of performance evaluations and probationary reports, interviewing and selecting job candidates, obtaining contract services as needed;
• Approving GA-950 incident reports;
• Assist with WCB construction projects;
• Assuring proper security coverage is maintained in all offices;
• Assuring on-site security staff handles special security cases appropriately;
• Recommend improvements and modifications to the security office standard operating procedures and post orders;
• Ensure staff training requirements are met;
• Work with access office staff and vendor in troubleshooting security systems;
• Knowledge of the Access Card System and video camera systems;
• Training security staff of access card system and video camera systems
• Some travel may be required

For new State employees appointed to graded positions, the annual salary is the hiring rate (beginning of the Salary Range) of the position. Promotion salaries are calculated by the NYS Office of the State Comptroller in accordance with NYS Civil Service Law, OSC Payroll rules and regulations and negotiated union contracts.
