Duties Description The Risk Control Department provides workplace safety and loss prevention services for NYSIF policyholders to reduce the frequency and severity of employee injuries. These include safety surveys, safety resources, safety training, compliance with Code Rules 59 & 60 and Safe Patient Handling.
Risk Control is seeking Student Interns to:
• Create, review and edit safety materials including PowerPoint presentations for use by Risk Control Consultants. Materials development can include creation of a scripted version for publication in the Risk Control Resource Center. Some materials may also be developed to tie in with NYSIF initiatives (e.g., Climate Change, Long COVID).
• Develop methods to promote new Resource Center materials.
• Assist with data analytics to include recap reporting, data pull, and preliminary analysis. This may include analysis of loss data to identify injury trends for the creation of new material.
• Work with Risk Control support staff in the creation of charts and graphs for analysis; researching and collating policy and claims data, and other information for the safety unit.
• Conduct policyholder outreach for course registration; quality assurance; or service offering purposes
• Use knowledge of industry developments to make suggestions regarding new or expanded departmental services.
Minimum Qualifications Minimum Qualifications:
• Enrolled full-time in a college, university, or graduate program in New York State and have completed a minimum of one (1) year of studies or a be a New York State Permanent resident enrolled in a college, university, or graduate program,
• Have completed a minimum of one (1) year as a student at a degree-granting two- or four-year college or university (completion of one year's worth of academic credits over a longer period may qualify part-time students for participation in the program) or be currently enrolled graduate student or accepted in a graduate degree program.
• Have a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 2.0, or the letter grade equivalent.
• Must be able to work part-time Summer (10-15 hours per week).
Preferred Qualifications:
• Proficiency in MS Office products, and particularly more advanced Excel abilities.
• Desire to work in public service.
• Preferred Major(s): Environmental Health and Safety or Occupational Health and Safety or Industrial Hygiene
