Duties Description Under the direction and supervision of the Regional Equipment Warehouse Manager or higher admin staff – The Assistant Park Recreation Supervisor (Equpment Warehouse Assistant) will be responsible for assisting higher level staff in the operation of the regional Warehouse by ordering and receiving office and cleaning supplies, uniforms and other commodities, materials and equipment, documenting deliveries, monitoring supply levels of various commodities kept at the warehouse, rotating stock as needed, track and reconcile purchases, maintain an updated inventory of materials and supplies using Microsoft Word and Excel, and assist in the distribution of warehouse commodities to parks and other work units needing them. The Assistant Park Recreation Supervisor is expected to quickly learn and conscientiously apply control and accountability measures designed to safeguard commodities, account for their distribution, prevent damage, and deter loss by theft. The appointee will be trained in various heavy equipment usage such as a forklift, tractor, and high-low in the course of assigned work and to assist in the authorized distribution and delivery of motorized equipment (including but not limited to snow blowers, push mowers) and supply to various parks and other locations. Additionally, the Assistant Park Recreation Supervisor assists in the control and distribution of park uniforms, cleans, and maintains the Warehouse, and assures that commodities are stored in a neat and organized fashion to assure ease of retrieval and readiness for use. The Assistant Park Recreation Supervisor is expected to use a variety of office equipment, motor driven equipment and hand tools in the performance of assigned tasks. The Assistant Park Recreation Supervisor may be asked to prepare written reports in response to specific assignments, supervise seasonal staff as assigned, and make recommendations for improved warehouse operations. The Assistant Park Recreation Supervisor may be required to assist in emergency situations by applying emergency procedures and practices by directing staff and working with patrons to minimize potential problems. The incumbent may need to work closely with volunteers, the community, contractors, vendors and other facilities and agencies to assure that NYS Parks’ mission is always met. The employee will be trained to perform a variety of administrative duties by assisting with inventories and collection of data for work orders and other assignments as needed at the warehouse or garage and support park operations at Roberto Clemente State Park or Shirley Chisholm State Park warehouse as needed and assigned special assignments for regional support.
Minimum Qualifications Two (2) years of full-time experience in an organized recreation program, one year of which must have been supervisory.
*If verifiable, we will accept and prorate appropriate part-time and volunteer experience.
Additional Comments OPERATING NEEDS:
• Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license that allows the candidate to legally operate a motor vehicle in New York State as a term and condition of employment.
• Must be willing to work outdoors year-round and in all weather conditions. Daytime, evening, weekend, and holiday work is required.
• Must be physically capable of lifting and carrying up to 50 lbs. - loading, unloading, and moving items of varying weights and sizes.
• Must possess strong organizational skills and the ability to work independently.
• Candidates may be required to report to other NY State Parks and facilities throughout the NYC Region on an as-needed basis.
DOWNSTATE ADJUSTMENT: $3,400
