Duties Description Will assist with the repair and maintenance of buildings and other structures; perform maintenance and repair of field structures which may require general carpentry,masonry,plumbing,electrical and mechanical skills;operate various pieces of equipment as well as dump trucks to haul material and equipment;purchase supplies and materials in accordance with Department policy and procedures; and be responsible for daily records and reports. Will be required to operate tractors and mowing equipment.
Minimum Qualifications Two years of full-time experience in maintenance or mechanical work
under the supervision of a skilled tradesperson; OR completion of an appropriate two-
year technical school course at a school, institute, or branch of the Armed Services,
such as the New York State Civil Service Employees Association-Partnership (NYS
CSEA-P) Applied Skilled Trades Certificate Program*; or an equivalent combination of
experience and training gained by completion of appropriate technical courses at a
school, institute, or branch of the Armed Services..
*Successful completion of the NYS CSEA-P Applied Skilled Trades Certificate Program
includes a total of 288 hours of trade-specific classroom instruction, 45 hours of
technical math course work, 45 hours of technical communications course work, and 15
hours of blueprint/schematic reading course work. It does not include 4,000 hours of
on-the-job training, as required for the NYS CSEA-P Applied Skilled Trades
Traineeship.
Must obtain a Class A CDL within 12 months of appointment with appropriate endorsements and no airbrake restriction.
Additional Comments Must have a valid driver’s license or demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation needs of the position.
Use of personal protection equipment, including a respirator, will be required.
Must be able to negotiate difficult terrain.
Must be able to work in remote areas.
Must be able to work in adverse weather conditions.
Travel may be required.
Overtime may be required.
Overnight travel may be required.
Weekends and holidays may be required.
Must be available for emergency response.
Must be available to respond to after-hours emergencies.
Must obtain a Class A CDL within 12 months of appointment with appropriate endorsements and no air brake restriction.
Will be subject to the Federal Omnibus Transportation Employee Testing Act (OTETA) of 1991, which requires employee testing for drug and alcohol abuse.
Must be able to lift and move objects up to 50 pounds.

For new State employees appointed to graded positions, the annual salary is the hiring rate (beginning of the Salary Range) of the position. Promotion salaries are calculated by the NYS Office of the State Comptroller in accordance with NYS Civil Service Law, OSC Payroll rules and regulations and negotiated union contracts.
