Duties Description Assist with the operation and maintenance of DEC facilities, including buildings, flood control projects, wildlife management areas, fishing access sites, and state forests. Will be required to operate equipment and power tools safely and efficiently.
Required to operate highway vehicles including but not limited to medium and heavy-duty dump trucks or stake body trucks. Will be required to move materials to and from jobsites, transport trucks to maintenance facilities, and assist with diagnosing mechanical issues.
May be required to perform a variety of tasks of the buildings and grounds maintenance trades including plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting, sawyer, mowing, landscaping, equipment operation, and snow removal.
May be required to operate and assist with maintenance on diverse types of motor equipment to include but not limited to dump trucks, bulldozers, excavators, loaders, mowers, tractors, roller/compactors, skid steers, chain saws, road graders, snowplows, and motorboats.
Will be required to assist with office tasks such as work orders, vehicle reports, invoicing, etc. Provide written documentation of work performed, as well as purchasing, fuel usage, mileage reporting, etc. Supervise other Operations and Green Thumb staff as needed.
Minimum Qualifications Four years of full-time experience in a trade under a skilled tradesperson which would provide training equivalent to that given in a training, apprenticeship, or equivalent program; or an equivalent combination of experience and training gained by completion of technical courses in skilled trades at a school, institute, or branch of the Armed Services. Must possess a Class B CDL at time of hire with appropriate endorsements and no airbrake restriction.

Must have a valid driver’s license or demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation needs of the position.
Must be able to negotiate difficult terrain.
Must be able to work in remote areas.
Must be able to work in adverse weather conditions.
Travel may be required.
Overtime may be required.
Overnight travel may be required.
Weekends and holidays may be required.
Must be available for emergency response.
Must be available to respond to after-hours emergencies.
Must possess a Class B CDL at time of hire with appropriate endorsements and no airbrake restriction.
Will be subject to the Federal Omnibus Transportation Employee Testing Act (OTETA) of 1991, which requires employee testing for drug and alcohol abuse.
Must be able to lift and move objects up to 80 pounds.

For new State employees appointed to graded positions, the annual salary is the hiring rate (beginning of the Salary Range) of the position. Promotion salaries are calculated by the NYS Office of the State Comptroller in accordance with NYS Civil Service Law, OSC Payroll rules and regulations and negotiated union contracts.
