Duties Description Under the direction of higher-level personnel, the Trades Generalist’s duties include, but are not limited to:
• Perform a variety of skilled and semiskilled maintenance, repair, and installation tasks in the motor equipment trade.
• Assist the Motor Equipment Mechanic, as well as, work independently in performing oil changes, tune ups, and preventative maintenance and replacing brakes and rotors.
• Must have a working knowledge of methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in the motor equipment trade.
• Plan and lay out work and diagnose problems.
• Operate flat bed tow trucks, forklifts, and tow behind trailers in addition to shop related equipment such as pneumatic tools and equipment lifts.
• Complete assigned work from detailed plans, diagrams, and specifications.
• Operate the region’s flatbed tow truck in the performance of routine travel throughout the region to transport a variety of equipment to and from the regional machine shop.
• Perform periodic travel out of the local area for special events to pickup and deliver specialized equipment.
• May supervise and train subordinate maintenance staff.
• Other related duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications Four years of full-time experience* in a trade under a skilled tradesperson which provide training equivalent to that given in a training, apprenticeship, or equivalent program; or an equivalent combination of experience and training gained by completion of technical courses in skilled trades at a school, institute, or branch of the Armed Services.
When required to operate motor vehicles, candidates must possess a valid driver's license appropriate for the type of vehicle to be operated.
*If verifiable, we will accept and prorate appropriate part-time and volunteer experience.
Additional Comments OPERATIONAL NEEDS:
• Must possess a valid Class B*** Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) that allows the candidate to legally operate commercial vehicles in New York State and maintain it as a term and condition of employment.
• Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license that allows the candidate to legally operate a motor vehicle in New York State as a term and condition of employment.
• Ability to understand and carry out work from written and oral instructions.
***Under the provisions of the Omnibus Transportation Employee Testing Act (1991), this position has been designated Safety Sensitive. The incumbent is required to participate in pre-employment, random and post-accident drug and alcohol testing

• This position may require overtime. Schedule will be discussed at the interview.

The hiring rate listed combines the statutory hiring rate for CSEA Grade 12 ($48,956) with the Downstate Adjustment ($3,400). Similarly, the job rate posted is a combination of the statutory job rate ($59,757) and the Downstate Adjustment ($3,400).
