Duties Description The Nathan S. Kline Institute for Psychiatric Research (NKI) is a dedicated research facility of the New York State Office of Mental Health (OMH) located on the grounds of Rockland Psychiatric Center in Orangeburg, NY. NKI is affiliated with the New York University Langone Medical Center (NYULMC), located in midtown Manhattan. Applications are currently being invited for a Research Scientist 4 position within NKI’s Clinical Research Division.
Specific responsibilities would include, but not be limited to:
• The development of grants and contracts that further the mission of the NKI and OMH.
• Experiment design.
• Administering neuromodulation modalities and measuring clinical and biological outcomes
• Clinical sleep research evaluations.
• Clinical and neuroimaging data acquisition.
• Data analysis.
• Manuscript preparation.
• Conference presentation.
• Mentoring and teaching junior faculty and staff.
Minimum Qualifications Minimum: Bachelor’s degree and five years of professional research experience in an appropriate field or master’s degree in an appropriate field may substitute for one year of experience, or Ph. D in an appropriate field may substitute for an additional year of experience.
Preferred: Doctorate in Neuroscience, Psychology, or related fields and at least two years of relevant post-graduate research experience.
The ideal candidate will have an extensive knowledge of neuroimaging techniques (such as structural and functional MRI or magnetic resonance spectroscopy) and would have shown the ability to collect and analyze neuroimaging data with relevant software packages. The candidate will also have specific training and previous work related to neuromodulation (such as TMS, tDCS, photobiomodulation). Moreover, the candidate will also have training and expertise in sleep medicine evaluations for clinical trials.
Additionally, the candidate should have the following:
• A record of previous research funding from the federal government (e.g., the National Institute of Health, the Veteran Administration, and/or the Department of Defense) or from private foundations.
• Significant publications in top scientific journals in the areas of neuroimaging (such as task and resting state functional MRI), neuromodulation (such as TMS, tDCS, photobiomodulation), and sleep research, with demonstrated experience in clinically focused research areas.
• Expertise in clinical and sleep research evaluations for clinical trials
• Expertise in testing novel pharmacotherapies or neuromodulation devices in severe mood and cognitive disorders.
• Expertise in using functional MRI analysis packages (e.g., AFNI, FSL, SPM).
• Prior experience with statistical analysis, with specific training and applications to neuroimaging data analysis.
Other relevant experience would include:
• Specific training in the area of sleep medicine (interpreting polysomnograms and sleep laboratory evaluations) in the context of clinical subjects or research participants.

Posted salary is based on full-time employment and is eligible for a Downstate Adjustment of $4,000.
