Duties Description Position Summary:
In this role, the candidate will be responsible for all duties associated with the role of a Supervisor of Electrical in Facilities Campus Operations. You must have the ability to effectively communicate with coworkers, supervisors, electrical engineers and the campus community. This position will require working in a team atmosphere. You must have strong interpersonal and teamwork skills. Must be able to delegate responsibilities, develop an effective workforce, promote teamwork, and provide daily direction to the workforce based upon policy guidelines. The ideal candidate would be strong communicator and be able to plan and adjust schedules based on priorities.
Your responsibilities will include:
• The candidate acts as a first line supervisor directing and coordinating a variety of installation, repair, and maintenance tasks performed by electricians, maintenance assistants, laborers and or other trade personnel.
• Ensuring that the University Electric interior and exterior infrastructure is in good order, by planning work assignments and actively supervising the quality of electricians, assistants and laborers of keeping good services. Supervision will include overseeing safe work practices of the staff and exercise good judgments relating to work zone safety and the safety of the campus community.
• Supervising and assigning work assignments and develop schedules for electrical equipment maintenance for members by providing oral and written instructions, training and assisting in task performance. on north south and city campuses.
• Training personnel, or oversees training, on how to properly perform services, including operation of equipment, safe use of inspecting and evaluating electrical equipment with the proper PPE, and customer interface and encourage the exercise of initiative by fostering pride in maintaining the campus to the highest departmental standards.
• Ensuring that work is completed safely and schedules are met.
• Performing duties including tasks that involve the use of hand tools and power tools.
• Maintain records, prepare reports and compose correspondence relative to the work.
• Preparing and maintaining written and oral reports including federal and state mandated documents, as well as establish written procedures for transformer, generator and building transfer of energy.
• Be willing to work overtime for special events, planned electrical outages, unscheduled electrical outages, and other facilities requirements.
• Coordinating staff and equipment to inspect and evaluate electrical equipment and cabling to ensure that it operates efficiently and safely.
• Determine whether equipment and new installations meet requirements of the National Electrical Code.
• Be familiar with NYS electrical code to inspect buildings in order to determine electrical maintenance needs by visual observations, gages, meters, and other test equipment.
• Study blueprints and schematics in order to plan the material and labor needed to accomplish tasks.

Minimum Qualifications Minimum Qualifications:
• One year experience as a skilled journey level electrician subsequent to the completion of apprenticeship or equivalent training and experience.
• Candidate must exhibit strong written and oral communication skills, and the ability to establish and manage complex work schedules for employees.
• The candidate must possess and have proven positive customer service skills; must also possess good communication skills and be able to understand and follow written and/or oral instructions.
• Demonstrate a strong professional record of dependability and punctuality.
• Respond appropriately to changing situations.
Preferred Qualifications:
• One year experience with all three campuses main electrical substations, including Baker Chill Water main electrical.
• Experience interaction with the university’s utility provider- regional control office.
• Completion of 16 hour NFPA 70E OSHA Regulations for high voltage qualified person.
• Coordinates activities by scheduling work assignments, setting priorities, and directing the work of subordinate employees.
• Identify staff development and training needs and ensures that training is obtained.
• Handle requisitions and or purchases supplies, materials, and tools according to Facilities Finances and Procurement guidelines.
• Computer literacy skills that includes experience with a work management system, and Microsoft Office Suite.
• Experience with the methods, materials, and equipment used in the electrical industry,
• This position requires traveling within and between campuses.
• A valid license to operate a motor vehicle in New York State is preferred.
Departmental Operation Needs:
• Continually promoting a positive, safe, and healthy work environment for the team performing the repair/maintenance/installation of electrical systems/equipment, by ensuring adherence to appropriate safe work practices.
• Has a thorough understanding of the NFPA 70, NEPA 70B and NFPA 70E.
• Determines training needs and coordinates education/training with internal departments along with external training institutes for the electric shop team members.
• Provides in depth knowledge, experience and guidance relating to electrical systems at the Universities North, South and Downtown Campus locations as requested.
• Proficient with the use of Maximo application software, Kronos time tracking and Microsoft Office programs to communicate and providing up to date & accurate information.
• Meets with project managers, design engineers and consultants to review electrical construction documents providing expert subject matter recommendations.
• Resolving critical maintenance demands through funding requests, contractor quotes, purchase orders, MSRW’s and coordinating completion with team members.
• Accurately reviews work orders to ensure timely financial billing to departments and customers, relating to billable work orders and project requests.
• Collaborating with customers, vendors, contractors, engineers, and other departments to achieve small and large project objectives, within reasonable time frame and budgets.
• Initiating appropriate requests for service regarding interior/exterior power distribution systems/equipment, lighting, fire alarm and traffic signals to expedite resolution.
• Reviewing requests from customers, then providing detailed plan and cost estimates to assist with customer’s electrical requirements.
• Planning, scheduling, and coordinating medium/high voltage power distribution switching on campus and with the utility provider, to minimize system interruptions.
• The incumbent must have a journey level understanding of how to operate, maintain, troubleshoot, repair, test and calibrate electrical systems and equipment, including power distribution systems
• Must possess an understanding/knowledge of medium voltage power distribution systems or be willing to obtain training provided by employer
• Responds to after-hours emergency calls and ensures subordinates respond as necessary.
Physical Demands:
• Must possess: strength, stamina, and mobility to perform medium to heavy physical work, including working around equipment, ascending/descending ladders, and operating a variety of tools and equipment.
