Duties Description Manages the Food Service Department: • Interviews, hires, and trains staff; plans, assigns, and directs work; appraises performance; rewards and disciplines staff; and addresses complaints and resolves problems. • Prepares and manages annual budget. • Utilizes state systems for completion of required daily/weekly/monthly reports such as inventory, cash reports, production records, payroll/time-keeping, etc. • Oversees and participates in the preparation and service of food and beverage items in adherence to facility food standards for preparation, presentation, sanitation and safety (meeting HACCP and OSHA guidelines) and portion control. • Assigns and directs the workload of the clinical nutrition staff. • Other duties as assigned. Monitors competency, productivity, and documentation accuracy of staff. Participates in patient satisfaction programs, departmental meetings, and facility-wide Quality Assurance/Performance Improvement programs. Plan regular and modified menus according to established guidelines. • Trains kitchen staff (20 team members) in food preparation, safe handling, and operation of equipment, food safety, and sanitation based on company and regulatory standards. • Establishes and maintains cleaning and maintenance schedules for equipment, storage, and work areas. • Maintains an inventory of food and non-food supplies to stay within established guidelines while ensuring that necessary products are available when needed. • Complies with federal, state, and local health and sanitation regulations and department sanitation procedures.

Minimum Qualifications Candidates from outside or within State Service can be considered for hire under the Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement – Statewide (HELPS) program as a Nutrition Services Administrator 2 if they have current registration with the Commission on Dietetics Registration (CDR) as a Registered Dietitian (RD) or certification in Dietetics-Nutrition by the NYSED; and three years of post-registration/certification professional administrative experience in a food or nutrition program, two years of which must have been at a supervisory level. 

Current New York State employee with one or more years of permanent, contingent-permanent, or 55 b/c service in a position that is eligible for transfer under Section 70.1 and/or 52.6 of the Civil Service Law to Nutrition Services Administrator 2.

Promotion Provisional Appointment: In the absence of an eligible list with three or more candidates willing to accept a position, a temporary provisional appointment may be considered. For provisional appointment, candidates must meet the following minimum qualifications: Be a current NYS Department of Health employee with one year of permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c service as a Nutrition Services Administrator 1 or Dietitian 2 AND;

Either 1. have a current registration with the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) as a Registered Dietitian (RD);

Or 2. have your New York State Education Department (NYSED) certification in dietetics-nutrition AND have completed a minimum of an additional 400 hours* of supervised dietetics practice under the supervision of an RD.

*The additional 400 hours required is in addition to the 800 hours of supervised dietetics practice under the supervision of an RD required for NYSED certification. On your application you must provide the name of the institution where you obtained the additional hours; the name of your supervisor; and your supervisor's qualifications.

The posted salary range ($90,681 -$113,650 ) includes $4,000 of Downstate Adjustment.
