Workday
Duties Description Creates and modifies activities and programs based on residents’ interests and mental and physical needs to optimize enjoyment. Arranges for a mix of activities, including those provided through outside vendors, community involvement, staff delivery, and off-site activities, such as ball games and country rides. Coordinates activities and programs with other departments and residents’ schedules. Arranges for refreshments and transportation as needed. Observes resident attendance and degree of involvement, documents progress notes as required, and completes the Minimum Data Set (MDS). Assists in setting up and cleaning up activity rooms for scheduled programs. Encourages residents to participate in the various activities and programs offered. Operate the facility bus/van for outings.
Minimum Qualifications Reassignment: Current New York State Department of Health Veterans Home at Batavia employee with permanent or contingent permanent status as a Nursing Home Activities Assistant 1.
Candidates from outside or within State Service can be considered for hire under the Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement – Statewide (HELPS) program as a Nursing Home Activities Assistant 1 if they have Either:
1. 12 semester credit hours** in therapeutic recreation, arts, crafts, dance, drama, or physical education and one year of experience in direct client care in a geriatric setting***;
OR
2. a high school or high school equivalency diploma and two years of experience in direct client care in a geriatric setting***;
OR
3. four years of experience in direct client care in a geriatric setting***.
**You must submit a list of qualifying courses with your application. You must indicate the course name, the number of semester credit hours for each course, the name of the school, and the date when the credits were earned.
***Direct client care experience includes, but is not limited to, attending to patients' personal hygiene, grooming, nutrition, and daily living needs. Examples of geriatric settings include, but are not limited to skilled nursing, assisted living, memory care, and adult day care facilities, and senior centers.""
Open-Competitive: four years of direct patient care experience in a geriatric setting
Preferred Qualifications: Preference will be given to candidates with prior experience in a recreation setting and/or fundamental knowledge of recreation programs.

One, per diem, temporary appointment.

The posted salary range reflects full-time employment and will be prorated based on the percent of hours worked.
