Duties Description Under the direction of the Historic Site Manager and the Interpretive Programs Assistant, the Historic Site Interpreter will perform the following duties:
• Welcome visitors to the historic site museum, provide guided tours of the historic site and grounds to school, adult, family, community and other groups. May also provide off-site outreach programs in the Capital District and/or educational seminars at local institutions.
• Assist with research and development of site tours, educational programs, and temporary exhibits.
• Work with staff to coordinate and implement special events and programs.
• Contribute to the site’s social media, Friends newsletter and complete written reports.
• Assist with site administration tasks, answer phones, take reservations, process admission and gift shop transactions.
• Conduct research and undertake special projects as assigned.
• Perform light historic housekeeping duties and assist with general operations and care of the historic house and site.
• Maintain and promote a safe working environment by applying excellent health & safety practices.
• Performing other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
No minimum qualification per Civil Service.

Preferred Qualifications:
• BA in studies focused on 18th century New York History, Colonial and/or early American History, Native American or African American studies.
• Experience conducting historical research and delivering interpretation to diverse audiences.
• Experience or willingness to deliver living history interpretation preferred
• Experience working or volunteering in a museum or other cultural institution.

Additional Comments OPERATIONAL NEEDS:
• Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license that allows the candidate to legally operate a motor vehicle in New York State as a term and condition of employment.
• Must possess strong organizational skills and the ability to work independently as well as with others.
• Must be able to communicate effectively with other staff and park patrons in a responsible and courteous manner.
• Must possess proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
• Ability to perform medium to heavy physical labor, including medium-heavy lifting and using step ladders.
• Incumbents are expected to climb stairs as part of their regular duties, stand for long periods of time, and be available for site (and sister-site) programming.
