Duties Description Are you interested in starting or advancing your career with New York State? Washington Heights Psychiatric Unit is recruiting for a Psychiatrist 2. Candidates from outside or within State Service can apply.
As a psychiatrist 2 at Washington Heights Psychiatric Unit, you will provide psychiatric care and treatment services, supervise care activities, and oversee the administration of treatments.
Specific responsibilities would include, but not be limited to:
• The development of grants and contracts that further the mission of the NKI and OMH.
• Experiment design.
• Behavioral training.
• Data acquisition.
• Data analysis.
• Manuscript preparation.
• Conference presentation.
• Mentoring of junior faculty and staff.
Minimum Qualifications Candidates from outside or within State Service can be considered for hire under the Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement – Statewide (HELPS) program if they have a license and current registration to practice medicine in New York State and have certification in psychiatry approved by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN).
OR
Candidates from within State Service can be considered for a competitive class appointment if they have one year of permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c service in a title eligible for transfer under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law.
Preferred Qualification:
Candidates must possess a license and current registration to practice medicine in New York State, and certification in psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. Also, two years of post-residency experience designing and/or conducting research studies in an academic or research setting.
Preferred: The ideal candidate will have an extensive knowledge of clinical symptoms and neuroscience concepts related to severe mood and anxiety disorders in general and to obsessive-compulsive disorder in particular. The candidate will also have shown the ability to design, conduct, and analyze data from neurostimulation clinical research studies with neurostimulation interventions (such as TMS, DBS) and to use neuroimaging (such as structural and functional MRI) and electroencephalography (EEG) techniques to interrogate the brain changes associated with such interventions.
Additionally, the ideal candidate should have the following:
• Current independent research funding from the federal government (e.g., the National Institute of Health, the Veteran Administration, and/or the Department of Defense)
• A solid publication track record in the areas of neurostimulation and neuroscience in mood and anxiety disorders, with papers published in first-tier journals
• Expertise in designing and executing clinical trials testing novel pharmacotherapies or neuromodulation devices in severe mood and anxiety disorders
• Prior experience with statistical analysis, with specific applications to clinical trials, neuroimaging and EEG data analysis.
• Experience with the administration and analysis of neurocognitive tests.
Other relevant experience would include:
• Membership in relevant national and international scientific societies
• Activity as a reviewer on grant review sections at the National Institutes of Health and/or the Department of Defense
Additional Comments Psychiatrists at OMH facilities are eligible for:
• Psychiatrist Loan Repayment Program offering up to $120,000

The posted salary is for a full time position.

This position is eligible for a Downstate Adjustment of $4,000.

If you are appointed and you lose the ability to bill through Medicare and Medicaid, you may be terminated from your employment.
3. Continued employment as a Psychiatrist 2 is dependent upon current licensure to practice medicine in New York State and certification by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. Loss of licensure and certification may result in removal from this position.
