The Office of the New York State Attorney General’s (OAG) Investor Protection Bureau (IPB), located in New York City, is seeking experienced attorneys to lead and pursue complex investigations and litigation using the Martin Act and other laws. The OAG is committed to protecting New Yorkers by robustly enforcing state and federal investor protections and prohibitions on corporate abuse. The selected attorneys will advance economic justice in New York state by directly contributing to IPB’s critical and ongoing enforcement work.

IPB protects the public from fraud and misrepresentation in the offering and sale of securities, commodities, franchises, and other investment products. IPB is seeking an attorney who can build on its storied history and robust authority to protect the interests of investors in today’s financial markets, including the growing risks in areas such as digital assets; addressing fraud in environmental, social, and governance (ESG) disclosures; the marketing of complex and speculative investment products to a broad range of retail investors; and the need for greater racial equity across the financial system.

Minimum Qualifications Qualifications:
• At least five (5) years of relevant, post-graduate legal experience with a focus on fraud and white collar investigations, as well as litigation experience in state and federal courts. However, the bureau is seeking applications from attorneys who have a wide range of skills and experience to offer. Therefore, interested attorneys who have more than the minimum years and well-qualified attorneys who have fewer than the minimum years of experience are encouraged to apply;
• Excellent research, legal analysis, legal writing and editing, and oral advocacy skills;
• Experience or interest in reviewing large volumes of data and analysis of financial information and developing and managing complex, document-intensive investigations;
• Strong interpersonal communication, teamwork, organizational, and problem-solving skills;
• Must be highly motivated, results-oriented, and proactive; and a
• Demonstrated commitment to public service

Preferred Skills/Experience:
• Experience with securities fraud and/or financial markets is a plus;
• Prior work experience as a government enforcement attorney or as a prosecutor is desirable; and
• Standup court experience including interviewing, deposing. or taking testimony from witnesses is also desirable.

Applicants must reside in (or intend to soon become a resident of) New York state and be admitted to practice law in New York state. In addition, the Public Officers Law requires that OAG attorneys be citizens of the United States. A two (2) year commitment upon being hired is a condition of employment.
