Duties Description • Plan and schedule subordinate workday/week, provide immediate supervision and direction to mechanics.
• Inspect all work performed by subordinates; visit section garages as needed.
• Provide technical expertise and advice to mechanics.
• Monitor safety precautions throughout the garage and for employees.
• Manage necessary paperwork, such as work orders and procurement cards.
• Must be comfortable with computer programs and smartphones.
• Manage employee timecards daily and review/approve leave requests daily

Minimum Qualifications Current New York State employee with one year or more of qualifying permanent service allocated to a Service and Repair Mechanic (Motor Equipment) and eligible for transfer under Section 70.1 of the NYS Civil Service Law.

Or Provisional Appointment Pending Examination:
Current New York State Thruway Authority employee with one year or more of qualifying permanent service as Service and Repair Mechanic (Motor Equipment).

Or Non-Competitive Promotion (NCP):
If there are three or fewer qualified candidates interested in appointment to this position, the appointing authority will request approval from the NYS Department of Civil Service to fill this position via a noncompetitive promotion (NCP) examination, pursuant to Section 52.7 of the Civil Service Law. In order to be eligible for the NCP, candidates must meet the following qualifications:

Current New York State Thruway Authority employee with one year or more of qualifying permanent service as a Service and Repair Mechanic (Motor Equipment).


NY HELPS Qualifications:
One year of experience supervising staff engaged in the maintenance, overhaul, and repair of gasoline and/or diesel-powered motor equipment, including passenger vehicles, construction and heavy equipment, freight and other commercial cargo vehicles, self-propelled off-road equipment, and non-self-propelled motor equipment.

This title is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS). For the duration of the NY HELPS Program, this title may be filled via a non-competitive appointment, which means no examination is required but all candidates must meet the minimum qualifications of the title for which they apply.
At a future date, it is expected employees hired under NY HELPS will have their non-competitive employment status converted to competitive status, without having to compete in an examination. Employees will then be afforded with all of the same rights and privileges of competitive class employees of New York State. While serving permanently in an NY HELPS title, employees may take part in any promotion examination for which they are qualified.

ADDITIONAL PAY INFORMATION:
The salary range for this position includes all applicable annual components of pay which are:
Base Pay Range from Hiring Rate $50,300 up to Job Rate $71,855.
Geographic Pay: $7,000.
