Duties Description - Perform various types of verifications including wage, unemployment, PFL, employment, disability, etc.
- Entry and maintenance of tax forms submitted such as W-4 and IT-204.
- Health Insurance One Time Overrides; enter missed payments for Health Insurance on employee paychecks.
- Employees Fingerprint fees entered on employee paychecks, as directed by Personnel – where applicable.
- Employees Disciplinary Fines entered on employee paychecks, as directed by Personnel.
- Insurance Deductions – Pearl Carroll, MC Life, CSEA auto home life, and loans; as noted on invoices received and direction from Personnel.
- Transfers in and out for employee accruals in Kronos Timekeeper
- New employee time updates to include floating holiday and pro-rated leave in Kronos Timekeeper as it relates to employee anniversary dates.
- Entry of lump sums, discrepancies, etc.
Minimum Qualifications Current New York State employee with one year or more of qualifying permanent service allocated to a Grade 07 or above and eligible for transfer under Section 70.1 of the NYS Civil Service Law.
NY HELPS Qualifications:
Payroll Assistant Trainee 1 – There are no minimum education or experience requirements for this title.
Payroll Assistant – One year of payroll experience, which included computing time worked, salaries, and deductions.
This title is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS). For the duration of the NY HELPS Program, this title may be filled via a non-competitive appointment, which means no examination is required but all candidates must meet the minimum qualifications of the title for which they apply.
At a future date, it is expected employees hired under NY HELPS will have their non-competitive employment status converted to competitive status, without having to compete in an examination. Employees will then be afforded with all of the same rights and privileges of competitive class employees of New York State. While serving permanently in an NY HELPS title, employees may take part in any promotion examination for which they are qualified.

ADDITIONAL PAY INFORMATION:
The salary range for this position includes all applicable annual components of pay which are:
Base Pay Range from Hiring Rate $34,782 up to Job Rate $56,710.
Recruitment & Retention Pay: $7,000.
This position may be filled as a traineeship. The starting salaries for this traineeship are outlined below. For current New York State employees, salary is based on the candidate’s salary at the time of hire.
$41,782 (Trainee 1, equated to SG-06)
$46,737 (Journey Level, SG-09)
