Duties Description The incumbent of this position will provide interpretation services to the Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor who is deaf or hearing-impaired, including providing sign-to-voice and voice-to-sign interpreting among colleagues, customer(s), and constituents. Duties of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:

1) Gather information verbally.
2) Attend meetings or conferences with the counselor.
3) Schedule appointments in situations where there may be communication difficulties.
4) Assist in preparation of written material to ensure material is presented in a grammatically correct format and is easily understood.
5) Assist with walk-ins and phone calls.
6) Assist with interpreting requests. (e.g., scheduling)
7) Be available for ongoing communication needs with the supervisor, co-workers, and management team.
8) Other duties as assigned by VRC or office management team that will benefit the counselor or office in general.

Minimum Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Candidates must possess certification by Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf, Inc. (RID) OR a passing score on the written portion of the RID certification examination AND two years of experience providing sign language interpretive services for the deaf OR a rating of intermediate or above on the Sign Communication Proficiency Interview conducted by the National Technical Institute for the Deaf.

Additional Comments CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

This will be a temporary appointment. Promotions and transfers may change appointees’ negotiating unit. Candidates should be aware that changes in negotiating units may affect their salary, insurance, and other benefits. Verification of certificate will be required at the time of interview for all candidates. This position allows for the opportunity to telecommute up to 30% each bi-weekly pay period and is granted at the discretion of the supervisor and the appointing office. This position will require 20% in-state travel.
