Duties Description Greater Binghamton Health Center is recruiting for Social Work Assistant Trainee to provide case management and service coordination activities for individuals with mental illness. Candidates from outside or within State Service can apply.

As a Social Work Assistant Trainee, under the supervision of a Licensed Master Social Worker, you will assist higher level social work staff including:

• Interviewing individuals and their families to gather background information
• Assisting individuals in applying for services and completing paperwork
• Scheduling medical, dental, and other clinical services for individuals
• Participating in individual and group counseling sessions



Minimum Qualifications Candidates from outside or within State Service can be considered for hire under the Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement – Statewide (NY HELPS) program if they have a bachelor’s degree in a human service field.
OR
Candidates within State Service can be considered for hire under the NY HELPS program if they have 1 year of permanent service as a:
• Direct Support Assistant, Direct Support Assistant (IRM), Direct Support Assistant (Manual Communications)
• Developmental Disabilities Secure Care Treatment Aide 1
• Licensed Practical Nurse
• Mental Health Therapy Aide
• Secure Care Treatment Aide 1
• Teaching Assistant
• Training Aide
OR
Candidates from within State Service can be considered transfer to a competitive class position if they have one year of permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c service in a title eligible for transfer under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law.
After 1 year as a Social Work Assistant Trainee, you will automatically advance to the Social Work Assistant 1, SG-14, without further examination.
