Duties Description • Inspects or supervises food preparation, handling, service areas, & meals; & assists in identifying deficiencies & implementing corrective action plans to ensure compliance with prescribed diets, menus, standards, & requirements
• Serves as a member of the interdisciplinary treatment team; completes nutrition screenings & assessments; consults with healthcare providers on individual diet therapy programs to determine nutritional needs & diet restrictions; & identifies & recommends regimens to improve & maintain nutritional health
• Develops, plans, &/or approves diets & menus, including changes & substitutions; initiates actions to modify menus based on individual preferences & concerns; & coordinates & supervises recipe development & standardization
• Provides nutritional care instructions, information, training & consultation services to individuals & families; healthcare, direct care, & food & nutrition staff; & community-based programs on nutrition therapy, menu planning, & food preparation, sanitation, & safety procedures
• May supervise Dietitian Technicians& perform the full range of supervisory duties

Minimum Qualifications Reassignment: Current New York State Department of Health Veterans Home at Oxford employee with permanent or contingent permanent status as a Dietitian 2.

Transfers: Current New York State employee with one or more years of permanent, contingent-permanent, or 55 b/c service in a position allocated to Grade 16 or above, and that is eligible for transfer under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law to Dietitian 2.

Open Competitive (HELPS) qualifications: Current registration with the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) as a Registered Dietitian (RD) or New York State Education Department (NYSED) certification in dietetics-nutrition and have completed a minimum of an additional 400 hours of supervised dietetics practice under the supervision of a RD.

Promotion Provisional Appointment: In the absence of an eligible list with three or more candidates willing to accept a position, a temporary provisional appointment may be considered. For provisional appointment, candidates must be a current NYS Department of Health employee with one year of permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c service as a Dietitian 1 and have a current registration with the CDR as an RD or certification as a Dietitian-Nutritionist by the NYSED. 

Preferred Qualifications: Experience in a Long-term care setting.

Additional Comments We are a 242 bed, state of the art, Skilled Long-Term Care Nursing Facility providing care to the Veterans and their Dependents in our community.
