Duties Description • Organize and oversee both the total food service program and the clinical dietetic program
• Develop food service policies as they relate to treatment plans and care
• Develop & participate in quality assurance and performance improvement (QAPI) practices related to nutrition services
• Serve as a nutrition services liaison and educator with medical, clinical, administrative, direct care, and program staff, as well as local volunteer agencies, for guidance, direction, and training on nutrition counseling, policies, procedures, food preparation, sanitation, and safety standards
• Participate in selection of employees
• Conduct and supervise the inspection of food preparation, service areas, and meals
• Develop, review, and oversee the implementation of corrective action plans to ensure compliance with nutrition plans, standards, regulations, and requirements
• Consult with nutrition and healthcare staff to coordinate care, resolve issues & concerns, and ensure that individuals’ nutritional needs are met
• Develop nutrition program budgets and monitor expenditures
Minimum Qualifications Transfers: Current New York State employee with one or more years of permanent, contingent-permanent, or 55 b/c service in a position allocated to Grade 21 or above, and that is eligible for transfer under Section 70.1 and or 52.6 of the Civil Service Law to Nutrition Services Administrator 2.
Open Competitive HELPS: Current registration with the Commission on Dietetics Registration (CDR) as a Registered Dietian (RD) or certification in Dietetics-Nutrition by the NYSED; and three years of post-registration/certification professional administrative experience in a food or nutrition program, two years of which must have been at a supervisory level.
Promotion Provisional Appointment: In the absence of an eligible list with three or more candidates willing to accept a position, a temporary provisional appointment may be considered. For provisional appointment, candidates must meet the following minimum qualifications: Be a current NYS Department of Health employee with one year of permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c service as a a Nutrition Services Administrator 1 or Dietitian 2 AND;
Either 1. have a current registration with the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) as a Registered Dietitian (RD);
Or 2. have your New York State Education Department (NYSED) certification in dietetics-nutrition AND have completed a minimum of an additional 400 hours* of supervised dietetics practice under the supervision of an RD.
*The additional 400 hours required is in addition to the 800 hours of supervised dietetics practice under the supervision of an RD required for NYSED certification. On your application you must provide the name of the institution where you obtained the additional hours; the name of your supervisor; and your supervisor's qualifications.
Preferred Qualifications: Experience in a Long-term care setting.

If there are three or fewer qualified candidates interested in the appointment to this position, a permanent appointment may be made pursuant to Section 52.7 of the Civil Service Law. To be eligible, candidates must be an employee of the Department of Health Veterans Home at Oxford and have one year of permanent competitive service as a Nutrition Services Administrator 1 or Dietitian 2.
This position is part of the NYS HELPS program. No examination is required.
