Duties Description The Research Scientist (Epi) position will be in the Bureau of Data Analytics, Research, and Evaluation and will be responsible for supporting the Sexual Violence Prevention and Response Units with data management and evaluation needs. To improve data transparency related to the hospital treatment of sexual assault patients, the Research Scientist will be responsible for analyzing data from the Sexual Assault Forensic Examiners Program, Rape Crisis Program, and the Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System. The Research Scientist will use these data to help the program measure prevalence of sexual violence, and the provision and utilization of services by SAFE designated hospitals to be publicly shared on the Department’s website shared with stakeholders. The Research Scientist will also seek out other data sources from state agency partners related to sexual offense evidence collection kit distribution, and hospital reimbursement for sexual assault treatment for analysis and distribution. The Research Scientist will participate in all aspects of research, perform evaluation activities as necessary and write reports to contribute to policy recommendations and make data-driven decision that improve the Sexual Violence Prevention and Response Section’s activities.
Minimum Qualifications Research Scientist 1 (G18): Bachelor's degree in Biology, Public Health, Epidemiology, Infection Control, Statistics/Biostatistics, Biomedical Science, Environmental Health, Environmental Science, or a related degree and two years of post-degree professional research experience in an appropriate field, or a Master's degree in the appropriate field and one year of post-degree professional research experience in that field.
Research Scientist 2 (G22): Bachelor's degree in biology, Public Health, Epidemiology, Infection Control, Statistics/Biostatistics, Biomedical Science, Environmental Health, Environmental Science, or a related degree and three years of post-degree professional research experience in an appropriate field, or a Master's degree in the appropriate field and two years of such experience; or a doctorate in the appropriate field.
Preferred Qualifications: Proficient with MS Office, including Excel, Word, Access and PowerPoint. Experience with health program evaluation and reporting; Experience in the interpretation of data analytic results, budget analyses and projections, report writing and public presentation; Excellent oral and written communication skills; Bachelor's or master's degree in public health, epidemiology, finance, economics, mathematics, statistics, social sciences, computer science, or a related field and professional experience in that field; Experience in SAS to perform data process and analysis.
Additional Comments Permanent, full-time, non-competitive appointment. Appointment level will be determined based on the qualifications of the selected candidate.

This position may require travel throughout New York State including overnights to areas not served by public transportation.
